  3. Voltage sensor (ZMPT101B)
  4. LCD display (I2C)
  5. Breadboard
  6. Power supply
  7. Jumper wires

What is Energy meter?

An energy meter, also known as an electricity meter or watt-hour meter, is a device used to measure the amount of electrical energy consumed by a home, building, or specific electrical equipment. It tracks the amount of electricity flowing through a circuit and records the total energy consumption over a given period.

Energy meters are commonly installed by utility companies to accurately measure the electricity usage of residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Working of an Energy meter:

They provide readings in units such as kilowatt-hours (kWh), which represent the amount of energy used over time. This information is used for billing purposes, allowing users to pay for the exact amount of electricity they’ve consumed.

Circuit Connections:

  • Connect the ACS712 current sensor to measure the current flowing through the wire. Connect its output to an analog pin on the ESP32.
  • Connect the ZMPT101B voltage sensor to measure the voltage. Connect its output to another analog pin on the ESP32.
  • Wire the I2C LCD display to the ESP32 for visualizing the data.

Calibration and Testing:

  • Calibrate the sensors to ensure accurate readings. You may need to adjust the code based on sensor characteristics.
  • Test the setup by connecting it to an electrical device and verifying if the displayed readings correspond to the actual power usage.
