Proteus Library for 7805 Regulator 1

[otw_is sidebar=otw-sidebar-1]Proteus Library for 7805 RegulatorI hope you all are fine, in the previous tutorial on Proteus I have discussed the simulation of Arduino microcontroller development board and other commonly used modules for example Bluetooth module and relay module etc. In this tutorial I will discuss the simulation of the linear voltage regulator in Proteus.

7805 Voltage Regulator Simulation in Proteus:

After reading this post the reader will be able to learn about the Proteus, simulation model of the electronic components, library of the Proteus and simulation in Proteus. So sit back, keep reading and enjoy learning.

Proteus Library:

Let us first learn about the library of the Proteus before diving into the discussion on the simulation of the 7805 voltage regulator. The library of the Proteus consist of the schematic symbols, PCB footprints and simulation models of different components that are used for schematic drawing, PCB development and simulation in Proteus. While drawing the circuit in Proteus the schematic symbol of all the electronic components that are to be used should be present in the library of the Proteus, for PCB development in Proteus the footprint of the component should be present in the library of the Proteus. In a similar way the simulation model of the electronic component should also be present in the library of the Proteus for its simulation.

Thus it is important to manage the library of the Proteus. Fortunately the simulation model of a large of electronic components either discrete or integrated circuits are present in the library of the Proteus by default so one can simulate circuit consisting of these components without having need to download additional files. The simulation model of the linear voltage regulator 7805 is already present in the library of Proteus.

7805 Regulator Simulation:

7805 is the voltage regulator IC which consists of three pins as follows:

  • Voltage Input.
  • Voltage Output.

The regulator converts the voltage at the input to 5 volts at the output of the voltage regulator and also regulates the output. As told earlier that the simulation model of the 7805 voltage regulator is already present in the library of the Proteus and you do not need to download any additional files for its simulation however if anyone is interested to know the method of installing new simulation models in the library it is recommended to go through my previous tutorials. So coming back to the point, go into the “Component Mode” and search for the 7805 voltage regulator IC and add it into the workspace. Now search the filtering capacitors of your desired capacitance and also add them into the workspace. Now connect each component to draw the circuit as shown in the following image:

Note that the voltage meters are connected at the input and the output, at the input side 12 volts are connected to the regulator and 5 volts will be obtained at the output side.

After you have connected the circuit press the simulation button and the simulation will start. The input and output voltages are shown in the following image after the simulation is started as shown in the following image:

That is all for now, I hope this tutorial will be helpful for you. In the next tutorial I will come up with more interesting topics and simulation in Proteus. Till then stay connected, keep reading and enjoy learning
